About AngelHair Inc.
AngelHair was created from a moment I shared with a client who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Her name was Robbin Hahn Bothof. When she first came to me to discuss options for a wig, she had been wearing head scarfs to cover her thinning chemo hair. She was in a professional position requiring her to be in public settings, and even though she was very ill, she wanted to continue working as long as possible. When we discussed the cost of customizing the wig, starting around $1100 to $1,500, her fear was not that they couldn’t afford it, but that she was spending that much money on something she wouldn’t be using for long, her cancer was terminal and her prognosis was not good. When she came on the day of her final fitting with her husband, there was a high emotion in the salon that couldn’t be ignored. When I put the wig on and turned Robbin to face her husband they both lit up with hope, excitement, and love. Tom saw his wife whole again like she used to be.
Witnessing that moment in person drove me to search for a way to gift that to as many women as I could afford to do it for. Knowing that many other women have been in Robbin’s place, but not buying a wig because they are terminal, or because they just can’t afford it, or they don’t want to take financial resources away from other expenses feels wrong to me. I wanted to make a difference, one that mattered to these women who are struggling just to get out of bed every day due to their cancer and the treatments they are undergoing. Some women still have to get up and go to work, put a smile on their face and try to hide how sick they truly are, take their kids to school, and function as normal as possible every day even though they feel miserable. I want them to have something that even though they feel miserable, they can look in the mirror and see themselves as they were. It is true that when we look good, we feel better. There is a lot of power and healing in seeing our reflection in the mirror and feeling good about what reflects back, this is how AngelHair’s mission came about to support the healing powers of appearance.
